Welcome to Tempus Fugit. I hope your visit will help you in your family quest.

Site Purpose

My intent in creating this site is two-fold.

Honor and remember our ancestors. Just before he passed away, my grandfather, Edwin Sabin, asked me to remember his mother, Ella Snelson, because “she was a good good woman.” Thus, this site is my attempt to honor his request.

Share the results of my efforts with other family researchers. This site would not be possible but for countless other researchers who generously shared the product of their labor. This is my attempt to pass on the favor.

Research Goals

Over the past couple of years, I have found my research interests beginning to focus more on ancestors migrating from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and ultimately to Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota, with particular interest in those pioneering Nebraska. Therefore, I have concentrated on ancestors beginning with those born in the early 19th Century.

At present, I have collected birth, marriage, and death certificates, as available, on all ancestors in my direct family line; and have begun the same effort for those not in my immediate line, as well as allied family lines. Besides this, I have nearly completed federal and state census document transcription for most of my ancestors through 1850.

During late May 2004, I will relocate to Auburn, Nebraska, thus affording me more opportunity to search for additional documents, such as newspaper articles; court, school, and tax records; and more.

As three of my four principal family lines were early settlers of Nebraska, my ultimate goal is to write a history of western Nebraska, as told through my ancestors’ experience.

Online Database

My online genealogical database is hosted on Rootsweb. To view it now, select the link below.

Rootsweb Database

My database tool of choice is Family Tree Maker 2005. In addition to the typical information, most of my research notes are maintained in the database; this includes all of my census transcriptions, and transcriptions of most of the documentation I have collected.

As a lot of beginning researchers, I initially collected ancestors’ names and vital information without particular regard to citing my sources.

Sharing Information

Without the generosity of other researchers and distant cousins, much of the success I have experienced would not have been possible. Thus, I am ever prepared to share my Gedcom files, documents, and photographs. Recently, I have begun to find my essays and transcriptions published within others’ online databases. Because of the thousands of dollars and hours I have spent in my ancestral quest, I would appreciate it if those publishing information I have provided would credit their sources appropriately.

A Little About Me

My name is Lynn Sabin, and I am the granddaughter of Edwin Sabin & Beulah Irland and Joseph Clary & Mae Knapp. Currently, I live in Sachse, Texas, but as mentioned above, I will relocate to  Auburn, Nebraska, in late May 2004. My current passion for genealogy has evolved vocationally over the past 30 years.

Following college, where I majored in Interdisciplinary Studies and Law Enforcement, I spent six years in federal and local law enforcement. Thereafter, I was in the Marine Corps for 20 years, where my principal duties were in tactical and strategic intelligence. During my last 10 years in the Marines, I taught Intelligence Analysis and Intelligence Collection Planning at the Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, in Dam Neck, Virginia, and at the Joint Military Intelligence College, in Washington, DC. Since leaving the Marines in 1994, I have consulted for major managed care companies, JC Penney, Verizon, and Carlson Hospitality Worldwide. My duties have focused on corporate communications, technical writing, project management, process analysis, database and website development.

I have two children. My daughter and her husband live with their son and daughter in Lynchburg, Virginia. My son and his wife live with their daughter in Midvale, Utah.

Besides genealogy, I enjoy writing, collecting antique dinnerware, and playing piano. I have written a number of magazine articles on military and national intelligence issues, staff planning, and workplace dynamics, in addition to books on word processing and land navigation. I am owned by three cats.
